From Inquiry through Discovery
Throughout the process, my team and I had to revise the question slightly to emphasize what our focus was. Originally, our PICOT question focused on if neonates exposed to opioids in the womb had a greater risk for birth defects. However, after analyzing the question we decided to primarily research neurodevelopmental delays in neonates exposed to opioids rather than birth defects as a whole. By doing this we were able to isolate our research more and specify what birth defects we were specifically trying to research. In terms of challenges as a team, time management has been a main one since we are all busy with multiples classes and assignments. Since we all have a different schedule, we have to find a common time that works for everyone to work on each part of the assignment. This is how we have solved these challenges up to this point. Another way we could continue to solve this problem is by communicating who will complete what part of each assignment earlier on in the week so we can work on it individually when we each have time. In terms of success, my team and I have had success in being able to isolate some articles and systematic reviews that will help us with our research. We were all able to find articles that provide useful information that we can use for this project as well as in our future professions as nurses. For our team, the process that has worked the best for us is open communication. We are always sure to ask each other what needs to be done as well as how we, as a group, would like the focus of each assignment to be. We have certainly faced challenges with communication though they are always solved with a quick follow up on where the team is currently at in terms of progress. Overall, I feel as a team that we have been able to efficiently and effectively overcome each challenge we have faced.
