Ethical Considerations for EBP

Ethical Considerations for EBP

After completing the ethics assignment, I can say that my understanding of nurse’s contribution to ethical conduct of research and implementation of research findings has not changed significantly but rather encouraged my belief. Nurse’s play such a significant role in the the ethical conduct of research since they work so closely and interpersonally with each and every patient. This means they see each and every patient for their own unique circumstance rather than just a population or disease that would be useful in terms of treatment to research.  I believe the it is important for nurses to know the historical evolution and principles of research ethics because it provides background on examples of research that may have not followed the code of ethics and how we can improve from those past failures. Without knowing the history of ethics in research then one can not improve the quality of research and how research is implemented into practice. In terms of my own achievement, by gaining an understanding of each of the course objectives, I have been able to improve my understanding in the ethical conduct of research, quality improvement, and evidence based practice as a whole. This course has taught me that research is not a simple question and answer but rather involves multiple ethical factors and requires quality improvement throughout the process. Ultimately, after this course I feel more confident in the research process and well as how to bring ethics into my current and future nursing practice.
