Preparation for Licensure and Transition to Professional Practice
Prior to starting Transition to Practice, I was unsure of what the class itself entailed. However, through this class I was able to learn about licensure, examination, as well as practice for the NCLEX throughout the entirety of my final semester. As I took each ATI Exam, I was encouraged to reflect on my test taking strategies as well as what I thought I could do better. By doing this I was able to recognize my weaknesses and improve on them throughout the semester. What I saw from this, was an improvement in patience and recognition for when I might be rushing through questions rather than taking my time. Ultimately, this benefitted me in the final ATI Comprehensive Predictor in which I saw significant improvement even though it was the longest ATI exam I had ever taken. Not only did these reflections help me improve, but also the resources through ATI. Since there were so many ATIs to complete this semester, I found myself recognizing a trend in the topics I got wrong in which a lot of my remediations were similar in topic. By recognizing this I was able to solidify some of this information and ultimately apply it each time to improve my scores and levels throughout the semester.
While I focused on my test strategies and remediation topics, I also made sure to take care of myself. I did so by recognizing when I needed a break and planning my schedule for the week so that I didn’t have a million things to get done at once. This is a practice I have carried with me throughout school in which it has helped me keep track of assignments and stay on top of them to ensure that I had free days where I could enjoy time with my friends and not think about school. Though I had days where I was stressed or did procrastinate, I do believe the time I took for myself was well worth it in which without my friends and my family for support, I would not have been as successful in completing nursing school. Lastly, as this semester ends, I hope to take with me the ambition and drive I have had throughout the whole four years. Even when I found myself overwhelmed and exhausted, I still pushed myself to complete my work to the best of my ability because I knew it would be worth it. Now that the graduation is within reach, I feel proud of all the times I pushed myself to work my hardest because I believe it ultimately has paid off. I am going to continue to apply these skills until my NCLEX as well as throughout the rest of my practice in which I believe the courses I took this semester prepared me well.
