Influence Paper

Influence Paper

The focus of this paper is to summarize the effects of opioid use during pregnancy on the neurodevelopment of neonates. Neonatal abstinence syndrome has increased significantly over the years though little research has been done on long term neurological effects of infants pre-exposed to opioids. This paper goes into the research that has been conducted in regards to these neurological effects and how through doing this research one can improve their practice when working with these infants.

Final Reflection

Final Reflection

Throughout this team project, I have learned many things. The most important thing I have learned is teamwork and collaboration. An important aspect of completing a common goal is that everyone contributes and brings their own strengths to the assignment. By completing the influence paper as a group, I have been able to witness how this occurs. Our topic for the influence paper was Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) in which one day I hope to work with infants in the…

Ethical Considerations for EBP

Ethical Considerations for EBP

After completing the ethics assignment, I can say that my understanding of nurse’s contribution to ethical conduct of research and implementation of research findings has not changed significantly but rather encouraged my belief. Nurse’s play such a significant role in the the ethical conduct of research since they work so closely and interpersonally with each and every patient. This means they see each and every patient for their own unique circumstance rather than just a population or disease that would…

Appraisal and Synthesis

Appraisal and Synthesis

Through evidence appraisal and synthesis, I discovered more about my topic in terms of treatment for these mothers and the cognitive development of the infants after they are born. The research that my group has discovered throughout this process has allowed me to learn more about Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) as well as the neurological effects of opioids on the developing brain of an infant. During this process, my assumptions about the topic have not changed. I still believe that…

From Inquiry through Discovery

From Inquiry through Discovery

Throughout the process, my team and I had to revise the question slightly to emphasize what our focus was. Originally, our PICOT question focused on if neonates exposed to opioids in the womb had a greater risk for birth defects. However, after analyzing the question we decided to primarily research neurodevelopmental delays in neonates exposed to opioids rather than birth defects as a whole. By doing this we were able to isolate our research more and specify what birth defects…

Planning the Journey

Planning the Journey

I anticipate that through this group project many things will be accomplished apart from the project itself. I see myself learning to work better collaboratively as a team on a common goal. This is a very important skill in nursing as well as research in general since research is often conducted by a group of individuals trying to answer an important question. I also hope to accomplish useful group time management skills to be sure that we all do not…
